The Session for postgraduate students of the Programme «Teaching and learning in Higher Education» of the first year of study has ended.

The future PhDs discussed the value components of higher education, continued to analyze the main issues of autonomy of universities and their financial and economic activities, organization of mobility and peculiarities of the organization of the educational process in conditions of distance/mixed format in higher education. An important component of studying under the Programme «Teaching and learning in Higher Education» was mastering the issues of improving teaching in higher education through the definition of a teaching model and strategy, marking the role and academic career of a teacher and effective planning of teaching.

We wish the postgraduate students further success!

On March 25, 2024, a meeting of the Academic Council of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine was held in a mixed mode (both online and offline).

The following issues were considered during the session of the Academic Council:
– the results of the work of graduate students and doctoral students for the first half of the 2023/2024 academic year;
– the report of the Institute’s Council of Young Scientists on its work in 2023;
– approving:
the work plan of the Council of Young Scientists for 2024;
changes to the thematic plan of academic research of the Institute on the topics of the NAES of Ukraine for 2024.

As a result of the consideration of these issues, the Academic Council of the Institute has made the corresponding decisions.

Post-release on the results of Cultural and educational event on the topic “Yevhen Chikalenko – statesman, agrarian, philanthropist who taught to love Ukraine to the depth of one’s own pocket”

As part of the plan of actions of the NAES of Ukraine for the implementation of the Concept of Civic Education in Ukraine for 2024-2030, the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine held a cultural and educational event on the topic “Yevhen Chikalenko – statesman, agrarian, philanthropist who taught to love Ukraine to the depth of one’s own pocket”, which was presented to the audience by Anzhela Savchenko – director of “Kyiv Frescoes” tourist agency, guide on Ukraine, manager of cultural heritage projects of “Kryla” NGO, an independent researcher of local history.

In the course of the event the audience got acquainted with the little-known figure of Yevhen Kharlampiyovych Chikalenko (1861–1929): the conditions and circumstances of the formation of his Ukrainian-centric identity in his childhood and youth; attraction to social activities; the beginning of managing one’s own farm in the Kherson region and the introduction of the latest technology of “black steam” land cultivation and the circumstances of the publication of “Black steam and crop rotation” – a Ukrainian book that was recommended for use in educational institutions of the appropriate profile; initiating and financing the publishing of the newspapers “Rada”, “Nova Rada” and other projects in support of Ukrainian writers and artists; the last years of life in Ukraine and emigration and Yevhen Kharlampiyovych’s active participation in the activities of the Ukrainian Economic Academy in Podebrady (Czechoslovakia); the historical oblivion of his name and the return to the Ukrainian present a century later.

On February 26, 2024, a meeting of the Academic Council of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine was held in a mixed mode (both online and offline).

The following issues were considered during the session of the Academic Council:

  • approving the results of the contest for filling the positions of research employees of the Institute;
  • approving the application for the opening an academic research at the Institute in 2025 and the Prospective plan for the release of electronic publications of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine for 2025–2027, prepared based on the results of fundamental academic research;
  • approving the reports:

by the head of the Department of research activities of universities Olha Petroye and the head of the Department of interaction between universities and society Nataliya Shofolova on the results of a business trip to Lund University (Lund, Sweden) as a part of the realization of the EU Erasmus+ Project «Strengthening cooperation between universities and communities» (UNICOM);

by the adviser at the directorate Svitlana Kalashnikova the head of the Department of interaction between universities and society Nataliya Shofolova on the results of the participation of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine in the EU Erasmus+ Project «Teachers’ Certification Centres: Innovative Approach to Promotion Teaching Excellence» (UTTERLY).

As a result of the consideration of these issues, the Academic Council of the Institute has made the corresponding decisions.

Participation in the Expert Meeting

On February 20, 2024, a research fellow of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine Yurii Mielkov took part in the Expert Meeting for the European Commission’s initiative on EU R&I Knowledge Network on China.

There were 15 experts from such countries as Germany, Italy, Belgium, Great Britain, Finland, Australia, Ukraine et al. taking part in the meeting.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss three important framework conditions that lie at the foundation of EU-China cooperation in the area of science, technology and innovation – namely open science, research ethics and integrity and gender equality. Independent experts on the said topics and on contemporary China were invited to provide insights to prepare the ground for the discussions between the European Commission, EU member states, and EEA representatives.

In the course of the meeting, Yurii Mielkov and other experts presented their vies on the Chinese context, the recent developments and future prospects for the framework conditions outlined, as well as proposed and corrected the definitions that could be used by governments and EU stakeholders when developing declarations with Chinese partners related to research and innovation.

As a result of the meeting, the insights and propositions made by experts would be used for enhancing the discussion of the representatives of the EU member states responsible for cooperation with China in the field of science, technology and innovation.

The session for postgraduate students of the Programme «Policy and Leadership in Higher Education» of the second year of study was held on February 12-16, 2024.

During the assessment and examination session, graduate students confirmed the results of studies in the academic disciplines “Leadership in higher education”, “English for academic purposes”, “Teaching and learning in higher education”. Postgraduate students shared impressions of their participation in the 1st online school “Digital Technologies in Scientific Research”, which consisted of two modules. The session was rich in content and useful for conducting individual research of graduate students!

The Session for postgraduate students of the Programme «Teaching and learning in Higher Education» of the first year of study, was held on February 5 – 9, 2024 at the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine.

During the assessment session, students confirmed the results of studies in the educational disciplines “Philosophy of education and methodology of educational research”, “Organizational and project research and innovation activities in higher education”, “Politics and governance in higher education”, “Organization of the educational process in higher education of Ukraine “. Postgraduate students received recommendations from leading scientists regarding the organization of their own educational trajectory of study and research for the development of general and professional competencies. The session was filled with meaningful interaction between lecturers and students based on trust and respect.

The reporting academic conference of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine

On February 1-2, 2024, there was a reporting academic conference of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine held in a mixed format (both online and offline).

The purpose of the conference was to present the results of the research carried out by the scholars of the Institute in 2023.

26 persons took part in the conference.

Iryna Drach, director of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, made a welcome speech.

During the conference, there were 4 panel discussions on the following topics:

  • Increasing the research capacity of Ukrainian universities under the conditions of war and post-war reconstruction in the context of the implementation of the concept of “Open Science”
  • Policies and mechanisms for ensuring the effectiveness of educational activities in Ukrainian universities in the context of European Integration and under martial law and post-war reconstruction of the country
  • Policies and mechanisms for implementation of university social responsibility in Ukraine under the conditions of war and during the post-war reconstruction of the country
  • Theoretical foundations and mechanisms of interaction between higher education and labor market under martial law and post-war reconstruction of Ukraine

During the reporting conference, researchers presented their main achievements and applied results.

In total, in 2023, researchers have published 151 papers, namely 3 monographs, 1 preprint (analytical materials), 84 articles, including 18 articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection, 45 articles in Ukrainian academic periodicals, included in the List of Scientific Professional Publications of Ukraine, and 66 articles in periodicals indexed by other scientometric databases. The results of academic research were presented at 63 scientific and practical conferences, academic and methodical events of various levels, round table discussions, trainings, webinars, etc.

The prepared monographs and analytical materials will be freely accessible on the website of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine and in the Electronic Library of the NAES of Ukraine.

On January 29, 2024, a meeting of the Academic Council of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine was held in a mixed mode (both online and offline).

Before the start of the meeting, the Director of the Institute Iryna Drach has awarded Olha Petroye, Dr. Hab. in Public Administration, Professor, head of the Department of the research activities of universities, the Certificate of honor of the NAES of Ukraine for a significant personal contribution to the development of higher education, many years of active scientific activity and on the occasion of the anniversary.

The following issues were considered during the session of the Academic Council:

  • approving the work plan of the Institute for the year of 2024;
  • making changes to the composition of the Institute’s Academic Council;
  • approving the reports:

by the first deputy director Olena Slyusarenko and the senior laboratory technician of the Department of research organization and personnel Olena Lytovchenko on the results of a business trip to the city of Prague (Czech Republic) to participate in an educational visit-training at the Czech University of Natural Sciences in Prague as a part of the realization of the EU Erasmus+ Project «Strengthening cooperation between universities and communities» (UNICOM);

by the chief researcher of the Department of interaction between universities and society Olena Orzhel, the head of the Department of interaction between universities and society Nataliya Shofolova and the leading researcher of the Department of interaction between universities and society Mikhailo Boichenko on the results of a business trip to the city of Bielefeld (Germany) to participate in a study visit-training at the Professional Higher School of Medium Business as a part of the realization of the EU Erasmus+ Project «Strengthening cooperation between universities and communities» (UNICOM).

As a result of the consideration of these issues, the Academic Council of the Institute has made the corresponding decisions.
