Participation in the Expert Meeting

On February 20, 2024, a research fellow of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine Yurii Mielkov took part in the Expert Meeting for the European Commission’s initiative on EU R&I Knowledge Network on China.

There were 15 experts from such countries as Germany, Italy, Belgium, Great Britain, Finland, Australia, Ukraine et al. taking part in the meeting.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss three important framework conditions that lie at the foundation of EU-China cooperation in the area of science, technology and innovation – namely open science, research ethics and integrity and gender equality. Independent experts on the said topics and on contemporary China were invited to provide insights to prepare the ground for the discussions between the European Commission, EU member states, and EEA representatives.

In the course of the meeting, Yurii Mielkov and other experts presented their vies on the Chinese context, the recent developments and future prospects for the framework conditions outlined, as well as proposed and corrected the definitions that could be used by governments and EU stakeholders when developing declarations with Chinese partners related to research and innovation.

As a result of the meeting, the insights and propositions made by experts would be used for enhancing the discussion of the representatives of the EU member states responsible for cooperation with China in the field of science, technology and innovation.
