On June 26, 2024, chief research fellow of the Department of Social and Institutional Transformations in Higher Education of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine Yurii Mielkov took part in academic seminar
on the topic “Third mission of universities and directions of transformation of higher education”, which was held by the Department of Philosophy and Social Disciplines of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Psychology and Social Sciences of the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management (Kyiv), having presented a report on the topic “The third mission of universities – steps and responsibilities: the experience of the University of Genoa”. The report for external stakeholders of the Department of Social and Institutional Transformations in Higher Education of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine presented the results of the study visit to the University of Genoa, which took place in May–June 2024 as a part of the realization of the EU Erasmus+ Project “Universities-Communities: strengthening cooperation” (UNICOM). In particular, the report presented the phenomenon, tasks and structure of the third mission of universities, its practical implementation including the sphere of interaction of HEIs with communities and enterprises, adult education programs and education for sustainable development, cultural and educational activities, etc. Following the report, Prof. Mykola Holovatyi, Assoc. Prof. Tamara Nych, Assoc. Prof. Iryna Storozhuk, Prof. Maryna Yakovenko and other participants of the academic seminar discussed the directions of transformation of higher education under the present-day conditions, the ways of implementing in the educational process the task of students’ adaptation to the modern world, as well as financial and ethical aspects of the realization of the “third mission” of universities.
